Where IS The Love? part II
written by Doug Webb

love heart dougAs promised, I am writing last week to explore where the love is. I will respond to your responses after this is written, just for the fun of seeing all the creativity that could come flying by.

I can imagine some answers will start like: Love is in us, Love is in the heart, Love is in our religions, Love is is our nature, Love is in our shirts, Love is in our water, Love is in the stars, Love is in our creativity, I could go on, and so could you.

But really, where IS it?

And just to throw a monkey wrench into the mix, WHAT is it?

Owww! This monkey doesn’t like the wrench. Here, have a banana. Good monkey.

I don’t know about you, but my monkey always thinks it knows all the answers. I can’t actually prove it doesn’t. Every time I come up with something it says “I knew that.” It’s a PDQ monkey.

BTW, how’s your monkey?

I bet your monkey came up with some really great answers.

O.K., it’s a few minutes later, and I tied up my monkey by giving it the problem of what’s for dinner.

Meanwhile, we can play with this love thing.

First, let’s try to define the one thing we have never actually managed to define. What the heck IS love, anyway?

Is it the drive to create new little humans? Or the drive to drive that fine automobile? (You know the one….) Or the drive to save all of Humanity? Or a gift we give each other, when we are in the mood?

Or is love a condition of life, like herpes? Or a goal we reach, like a degree? (Congratulations, you can love now, here’s your diploma….)

Is it something we learn? Or learn to do?

Is it a product of action, or a quality that we can award?

Really, I am asking you, what IS love?

(Once again, hit that “comment” box….)

My humble opinion.

(Take it or leave it)

Love is… energy that has a property of like.

In other words, love is an energy that pervades the Universe and has a vibration that attracts that which it resonates with. That’s why it is so very freaking vast. Love brings everything to itself. Love brings everything to you, if you resonate with it. Love brings more love, but that’s not all. You can resonate, or come into focus with, all of creation, and there it is! (Really, look out the window…..there it is!)

When we say “I Love You,” we are in deep resonance with the recipient of that set of words. Very important words.

violin dougNow, resonance means that when for instance, two violinstrings are said to resonate, they add up their vibrational frequencies to make a sound that is more than the sum of their parts. One note, added to another note, does not make two notes, it makes a chord, which is Music.

One soul, added to another soul, doesn’t make two souls, it makes a doug

So love can be seen to have an exponential influence, after all, what do we do for those we love? Everything.

What I am saying is that there is, literally, love in the air. And in the space between the molecules of air, in fact, to rhyme, it is everywhere. And the best part is….we can tap into the flow of it any time we wish. Like now.

We can imagine it like this: when we are not in love or in the practice of love, we can feel a little like we are underwater, and to tap into the power of love is like surfacing for air. The air is our native realm, but we often forget where it is, and we then feel a little trapped by the water of daily troubles and circumstance. But if we remember to come up for air, we remember to tap into the atmosphere of love, which is ever available to us.

Love is a realm of feeling. It needs no object, despite relative teachings to the contrary. We are often deluded into thinking we need to find love, or achieve love, or be loved, but really, even now, you can just simply remember to love. When we remember to be love, we find we are what we have been seeking, we are what has been missing.

Breathe, Breathe In The Air

Breathe, Breathe In The Air

Love is so pervasive that once you notice it, you notice it everywhere. It is in the light in the eyes of all the others who also are noticing it. Look around next time you are in the store or anywhere there are people, and you may notice a certain number of people who seem more present, more aware, more “sparkly.” They are aware of the pervasiveness of love and the way that it feeds the soul. You could say they are more “awake.”

So, where IS the love? Well, if you can’t actually feel it, can you imagine it? Could you, just for this moment, bathe in the possibility that it is all around, in, and throughout us and everything? Sometimes it may not seem that way, but no matter how deep the water may seem, you can always come up for air.

This is very good and very provocative, Doug. And true. It’s learning how to tap in that can sometimes be a challenge. I never forget that as babies, we come into the world wanting to love and be loved. I’m not so sure we ever completely overcome that feeling.
