Embracing The Barbie Complex
written by Brooke Hart
Body image is a continuous debate in modelling and entertainment, daily life and relationships. Society has coined body images to express a quick judgment on an individual and their lifestyle as well as how they respond to certain parts of their lives. Women especially have been taught how to judge certain body images that are more or less beautiful as well as how to project a physical standard, specifically developed from our favorite plastic toy, Barbie.
The amount of engrained information and energy placed into the Barbie complex is phenomenal to me. It has the power to shift one’s focus, change their self – esteem level and creates myriads of problems with what one decides to do with their lives. Many women who have a certain perception of their body refuse to travel or to be in public. Others won’t go for the job they want or decide they don’t have the beauty to step forward into a certain light. I’ve seen and heard endless stories of patterns and beliefs that have been set into motion, creating deep wounds that don’t allow women to be in their true core power.
Our clothes, our emotions and our mind center around the phenomena of the Barbie complex. So much of our energy and our perception is daily pointed at what we think of ourselves when looking in the mirror or when we are in public. It comes partly from society and the standards that have been set and changed for propaganda of the physical body. But mostly, it comes from our mindset and what we decide we think about ourselves because of what we are fed in relation to our body image.
Making Up Your Mind – Body Relationship
I have a certain challenge to Barbie and to the world of body image. When we think and perceive our body’s in a certain light, it becomes that. I remember a time in my life where I was convinced I was fat. I put so much energy into this one thought, that I actually gained weight. I have also seen many who convince themselves they are sick. Amazingly, they not only become sick, but their physical body reflects this in ways that a physical illness wouldn’t.
I have also seen and done the opposite where I have decided I was thin, tall or a certain style. The thought has never failed me or anyone else that I see doing this. When you begin to think and become emotional about a certain concept, your energy body says “okay, sure, whatever you want.” Just as “The Secret” and other spiritual teachers speak of manifesting your life with your mind, you can also make up your mind and change your energy in relation to your body image.
On days when you wake up and decide you want to be beautiful, even without effort, it changes your energy. It changes your energetic body, your aura and the way you carry yourself. Look at women (and men) walking through the streets. There are ones that seem reserved or held back. The body image and energetic communication they are sending creates this particular way of walking and being. Then, look at a woman that, despite what she is wearing, seems to resonate differently. Maybe her hips sway differently or she seems more open. The body image that is presented from her mind and energy body manifests in the way that she holds herself and walks.
Would if you made up your mind to be your true image? Your energy body would respond. Instead of saying, I am beautiful, I am not beautiful, I am fat, I am thin, I am tall, I am short, you drop the patterns and thoughts of what you think your physical presence is. Instead, focus on the image that you really are. Look at your energy body first and simply become beautiful because that is what is at the core of your being. The rest is ego, emotion and energetic blocks that create false images and perceptions that you then walk around with day after day.
Create an internal mirror every morning before you create a physical image. Before you look at yourself, put on your clothes and make – up and get ready for the day, draw yourself into your core. At the core is a being and energy that doesn’t have any patterns or thoughts of what it means to be beautiful or ugly. It doesn’t have the coded in beliefs about what you should or shouldn’t look like. Draw this image in your mind and emotions before you do anything else in the morning. Allow yourself to resonate with this image and communicate to your body that you want to remain in this as you get ready for the day.
Two minutes of this short body wisdom meditation every day changes your body. It changes how you perceive your body, which communicates who you want to be to your energy body. This is how it should be. You can stop the negative communication of body image and of false perceptions of yourself. When they come up, throw them away. It is propaganda of your mind trying to convince you that you are something that is other than what you really are. Do this for 40 days to create a pattern. You will find that without any effort, your body responds to your energy. It taps into the core beauty and a new pattern of your essence starts to radiate in how you carry your body, mind and emotions throughout the day.
The idea of changing your thoughts to change your body also changes your life. It changes what you think you can and cannot do. It alters your physical presence and the way you resonate as you walk, talk and go throughout your day. Eventually, it allows you to transform back into your core energy body, which is who you were before the plastic dolls, models and commercials told you that you should be something else. This is your true body and core energy image that wants to come out and play.
