In ancient India and China, doshas were commonly used to describe the energetics that one carried. Doshas were defined by air, earth, water and fire. The body type and the characteristics of an individual also defined the dominant dosha. For instance, if one was irritable, aggressive and had a slimmer body type, then the dominant dosha was fire. Herbs, diet and certain exercises were then given for one to balance out the fire element with water, air and earth. It was also possible for one to have more than one element in their characteristic.

The doshas explain a part of our body type and why we are the way we are, but not all of them. The energetics of our body are continuously playing with the environment as well as internal shifts. While we are a physical body, we can easily change and shift our energetics to change our body and even our characteristics. Different exercises, energetic changes and even food and lifestyle habits contribute to this natural format for shapeshifting. You can use the concept of doshas not only to describe your characteristics, but also to understand different forms of chi or manna that you can use in your life.

Your Internal Doshas

Have you ever had a day where you wake up and there is some form of irritation bothering you? While there may be a physical form that has directly affected you, there is also an energetic that is coming into your field. The energetic is a fire energy, or dosha, that creates a certain balance in your body and then leads to the energy in motion of irritation. If this continues you may feel physical affects, such as burning feelings. If the irritation energy continues to move like the fire through your energy field, it can lead to symptoms such as liver problems or high blood pressure.

You can examine the energy of the day that you awaken with to understand how the elemental energy is moving through you at any time. Identifying what these are then helps you to move into deeper physical, emotional, mental and soul affects that create your day in a certain way. It internally shifts you and eventually changes your physical condition, either in a positive or negative form. While you may have one dominant characteristic, the key is to balance this out as opposed to continuing to allow that specific energy to affect your life.

Your Daily Balance

Each day requires paying attention to the different energies that are coming through. Too much aggression, being too subtle or playing out other forms of characteristics may have a longer impression on your emotions, mind and body. There may also be passing energies that you will want to balance with your food, physical actions and with the attitude of the day. As you balance these out, it will remove any imbalance in your energetic field. When this happens, you will be less susceptible to ill health or other factors that may affect your lifestyle.

Let’s take the balance for fire energy. Right now, the astrological signs and the energy in various regions are leading to a strong fire energy. Each individual is then impacted with this energetic that easily moves into their energy field. However, you can cool down your personal life so you aren’t affected with illness or imbalances in your physical or energetic body. By simply not eating spicy foods, eating more fruits and doing slower breathing, you will be able to change this energetic. Maybe you have heard someone tell you to breathe slowly if you are angry. This is because the air calms the fire instead of causing it to catch and accumulate throughout the day. Using these energetic balances with the metaphor to doshas then creates an alternative effect with mind, body and spirit.

Changing your physical condition, characteristics and even the outcome of each day relies on balance of your energetic field. Reference to doshas is one way to work with guidelines in your energetic field. You can easily look at the different elements and how they are affecting your daily routine, life and the environment around you. Contrasting this with food, lifestyle, habits and other forms of practice within your lifestyle then helps in creating balance in your life while mastering your unique forms of energy that have created who you are.
